Starbucks is one of those companies that make me feel as if I have to sit and watch it all day. I have never had the opportunity to work at this coffee house, but I have the opportunity to come here and see them every day. They have their employees walking around in a happy, relaxed, happy, happy, happy, happy way.
I’m a fan of the free coffee, but it’s the perks that make it worth coming here. I have nothing against the employees, but they treat me like I’m just another employee that they’re trying to get rid of. It’s the free coffee that makes it worth it.
Like most of the other employee perks, Starbucks offers the opportunity for employees to work at their own personal coffee house. There’s no work experience, no training, no health care, no pension, no 401k. They even provide uniforms. Thats not to say that they will do everything wrong. I think that a lot of the coffee that Starbucks offers is good quality. I think that their employees are able to work on their own free time and not have to worry about their jobs.
Starbucks does offer some perks for the workers. The coffee shop has a health insurance plan and a 401k plan. However, both of these plans are for a fixed amount of time. So, for example, the coffee shop may have $5,000 in health care but it will also have $5,000 in 401k contributions. Theres no way for that plan to increase or decrease by a certain amount. Also, the workers pay for the health insurance plan and 401k contributions themselves.
You can get paid for free coffee, but you have to get paid for free food.
All this to say that I’m not the only one with a 401k plan. It’s actually been reported that some of the workers who are on the retirement plans are actually paying for the health insurance. So, they get into fights, they pay for food, they get into fights with other workers, and then they pay for the health plan.
