Work ability, and the desire for work and job satisfaction.
Work ability tends to decrease with age, so it would seem that the best predictor of job performance is the desire for a job. But I would argue that because work ability is more closely tied to the ability to pay bills and get by, that it’s not a good predictor. And as a person ages, more and more of their attention is focused on their health, so it’s not surprising that we see a decrease in work ability and a corresponding increase in the desire for work.
Older people are more likely to work for themselves and less likely to work for someone else because they are less dependent on the income they make. For example, elderly people who are working and making bills tend to work more independently, whereas elderly people who are retired tend to work for someone else because of their higher income.
In addition to the above, it seems to me that we are living in a world where the time-costs are going to be much higher than they would be if we were a single mom, a parent, and a child.
There are two major things that can contribute to the time-costs. The first is that we are living in a world where technology is making things easier but taking away more of the time-costs that people once had to work for. For example, it takes a lot less time to use a computer for a home project than it does to work on a paper project.
The second is that, while there is a lot of time for technology to make the most out of life, it is still a lot more time-cost-intensive to live in a world where the time-costs are going to be much higher than they would be in a single mom, a parent, and a child.
The third is that, in a world where things are easier to do, it is far more difficult to figure out how to use them. In a world where technology is making things easier, people are more able to think about the problem they are trying to solve and come up with a feasible plan. In a world where things are harder to do, that same person can just sit down and write a plan instead of spending their time figuring out how to get from point A to point B.
For the most part, the only thing that will predict future performance is past performance. If you have a really good idea, then it will probably work. If you have a really bad idea, you might even be able to make it work but it won’t be as good as if you had a really good idea.
I think this is probably true of any field. Most people can learn new things, but not all of them will be good.
It’s also true that a lot of predictors in older adults are much weaker but that’s one of the things I think we should expect.
If we were to predict and predict all the predictions about our own activities and habits, these predictions might not even be good. But we don’t have to predict anything we can predict, and it doesn’t have to be something good.
