The job characteristics model is a model that describes how people use job descriptions to describe the types of jobs that they have.
Job characteristics is a very broad model for describing job types, so it’s not quite a model for describing the job types of all people. We have jobs that are highly specialized (i.e. surgeons, programmers, etc.), and other jobs that may be general but aren’t that highly specialized (salespersons, etc.).
The problem is that the model itself is only a description of job types, and we have no way of knowing how these job descriptions were created. Our job descriptions are created by employers using job descriptions on job websites. If someone who is a programmer creates a job description for a programmer, then that is job descriptions. If someone who is a social worker creates a job description for a social worker, then that is job descriptions.
Job descriptions can be extremely broad and general, but they are also extremely specific. They are made up of a list of specific skills that someone with the job description has, and then a list of work to be done. The important thing is to be clear about what you are asking for. If you are asking for a job description for an engineer, don’t ask for a description of how to do things at a specific company.
